The Power of Gratitude

Science is starting to catch up to what great sages said long ago, that what we think, we become.

This is exciting because we can influence our lives beyond what society brings us up to believe. We can influence our health, our state of mind, our lifestyle, our relationships. We’re already doing it, but unconsciously. Lets bring it in to our conscious awareness and co-create with Life!

To bring awareness to your mind, your thoughts, your beliefs can be easy to say and sometimes it can feel daunting after a lifetime of letting them run with free-abandon. One great and simple practice that has already been found to have life-supporting and positive results is gratitude.

Having a gratitude practice has been scientifically-validated to give the following benefits;

o increased happiness and positive mood

o more satisfaction with life

o less materialistic

o less likely to experience burnout

o better physical health

o better sleep

o less fatigue

o lower levels of cellular inflammation

o greater resiliency

o encourages the development of patience, humility, and wisdom

Improving the way we think and feel changes the tension we hold in our face, that matched with more peace and less inflammation in the body means our natural radiance shines brighter.

Here is a practice to try;

Every day find at least 5 things to be grateful for. If you’re having a rough day and the cloud of depression has its grip on you. Look to the the simplest of things, that we often take for granted, to be grateful for; the air you are breathing, for your heart beating tirelessly to keep you alive, for the clean pure water you drink, for the knowing that with every sunrise is a new day, the beauty of seeing another sunset.. just find something that helps you to feel it. The more you can tune in to the feeling of gratitude, the more healing it is. We release more positive and nourishing brain-chemicals the more we sincerely feel it, see if you can shower your cells with the lovely feeling of gratitude. xo

“Thanking others, thanking ourselves, Mother Nature, or the Almighty – gratitude in any form can enlighten the mind and make us feel happier. It has a healing effect on us” (Russell & Fosha, 2008)
